DeSoto National Monument

Happy Valentines Day! This morning we awoke in our Tampa hotel to another cold, but sunny, day in Florida. We drove about an hour south to DeSoto National Monument to get our National Parks passport stamped. It was an interesting place where Spanish conquistador DeSoto started his famous exploration / exploitation of the southeastern US. They had a neat recreation of a small fort and showed how to shoot bows, crossbows, and a match-light gun. Zoe loved that all the paths were crunched up shells and that she could through them into the blue water of the bay. After a short visit we started our drive home. It was a fun weekend, though unseasonabley cold for Florida- I guess it snowed up in Gainesville. crazy.
