Stonewall Resort

West Virginia State Parks are incredible.  Last night we stayed at Stonewall Resort at the Stonewall State Park, and it made us bummed we hadn’t discovered it before.  The place is at the perfect location for a stopover enroute from our land in Kentucky and our parents’ home in central PA.  On previous trips we’ve stayed at a pretty nice Days Inn up the road; it had a pool which is my one prerequisite when travelling with
the kids.  It was also the same price as staying at Stonewall Resort.

This place is at a state park, so there are hiking and biking trails and a lake to fish from.  For an overnight, we just didn’t have time for much of that, but we did borrow one of the free canoes and go for a paddle.  Zoe and Bryan borrowed a couple free bikes and took a spin around the hotel.  Avi and I played at the playground and in the kids club room.  We ate at the restaurant.  And then we, of course, spent a long time in the pool.  It was big and one that goes inside and outside.  The kids had a blast until Avi took in a bit much water and got cold.  He and I snuggled in a lounge chair watching the view while Zoe and Bryan splashed around.  She loved running and jumping in…no lifeguards to yell at her for that one!

The bed was comfy, and in the morning we took a long walk over to the campground and recreation area to check out another playground and tire the kids before a final 4 hours to PA.  What a great relaxing trip!
